Mother’s Day French Toast
Need a special breakfast for that special mother in your life? This French Toast is it!! Crispy on the outside, sweet and moist on the inside. Prepare the bread the night before to make a simple and delicious breakfast treat! Happy Mother’s Day!!
Ingredients:
½ Sourdough Boule, cut in 1” thick slices (about 6)
3 large eggs
1 ½ cup whole milk
¾ cup maple syrup
¾ cup All-purpose flour
1 ½ TBL Vanilla Extract
1 TBL ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground ginger
½ tsp kosher salt
Butter for cooking
Toppings: Fresh berries or fruit, whipped cream, powdered sugar, maple syrup
*NOTE: make this dish gluten-free by choosing your favorite gluten-free bread and substituting the All-purpose flour for rice flour.
Directions:
1- Combine eggs, milk, syrup, flour and spices in a sealable container. Mix well.
2- Add bread slices to liquid mixture and flip each slice thoroughly to coat and absorb.
3- Seal container and occasionally turn it upside down to allow juices to reach all slices.
4- Store container in refrigerator overnight until you are ready to cook. (8-12 hours)
5- To Cook: Place large frying pan over low heat. Melt 1 TBL butter in pan to coat the bottom.
6- Place the soaked bread in pan for 6-8 minutes on each side. Bread is done cooking when bottom is golden brown. Once 1st side is done, flip the bread and repeat, adding more butter to the pan if necessary.
7- Serve topped with fresh berries or your mom’s favorite fruit, whipped cream, powdered sugar and maple syrup. Yum! Hope you enjoy! Happy Mother’s Day!
